"Highland Park is produced on the Orkney Islands at the far north of Scotland. The Vikings began to colonise Orkney in the eight century and the islands soon became a vital link in their western sea-routes. By the end of the following century a Viking settlement was firmly established and the way of life on Orkney was that of a Norse earldom.
The term “Viking” refers to the Scandinavian adventures who traded and settled in wide areas of Europe and the North Atlantic islands from the last 8th to the mid-11th century.
The Vikings were both pirate warriors and pioneering explorers: they travelled as far east as deepest Russia to trade with Oriental merchants and as far west as North America. The Viking Age from a major part of the medieval history of Europe.
