Islay is a truly historic, mysterious and beautiful unspoilt small island that lies off the west coast of Scotland. This stunning island of only 3000 inhabitants has no fewer than eight working malt whisky distilleries. Bowmore is the original and oldest Islay distillery, having crafted its award winning single malt whisky since 1779. Lying on the shores of Loch Indaal, at the heart of the island, Bowmore is renowned for its beautifully balanced, warm and smoky malt whisky.
This Bowmore is from a limited edition of only 134 carefully selected, predominantly bourbon casks, married, bottled at its natural cask strength, and released around the world.
Every part of this whisky was hand crafted and distilled back in 1989: the barley was malted, hand turned and traditionally peat kiln dried at the distillery. After distillation, the spirit spent 16 years slowly maturing in oak casks, before finally being decanted to the bottle. This is a true expression of Bowmore in its natural form, from the barley, to the barrel, to the bottle.
The result is a Bowmore light straw in colour; the aromas are complex – candied fruits, toffee and marzipan, bound together with the distinctive Bowmore smokiness. On the palate it is surprisingly delicate with hints of vanilla, soft fruit and light peat. The finish is light, elegant and smooth."
